Mediation
What is Mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process where a neutral professional assists you in making decisions for you and your family. The mediator will not make the decisions for you, but will assist you in crafting a workable solution. Mediation can be most helpful if your relationship will continue after the conflict is resolved. You control the process, prioritize the issues and create your own long-term solutions.
Why Choose Mediation?
Choosing mediation to resolve your family conflict is a confidential process, and a way to keep control over decisions regarding you and your children. Even if your relationship is ending, the relationship you have as parents to your children is a significant one and will continue for many years.
How is Mediation Different than going to Court?
First, you are in control of scheduling mediation sessions. Second, you choose who mediates your issue. Third, you control the issues and craft a creative solution that meets your needs. Fourth, mediation is often lest costly than going to court. You can choose to retain attorneys for mediation; and even if attorneys are involved in the case, you can choose to come to mediation without counsel. Finally, any solution arrived at in mediation will be something created by you, and not imposed upon you by some one that does not know what is most important for your family.
What does Mediation Cost?
Mediation sessions are typically 2-3 hours in length, and you are charged by the hour, with each person paying one half of the cost. The number of mediation sessions for a given case depends on how many issues need to be resolved, how complicated the issues are, and how well you work with one another.
